(일반논문) 『공마당』에 나타난 여성 인물의 폭력 양상 고찰 / 정미경

이 논문은 여순10·19사건 증언 구술 채록을 바탕으로 창작된 정미경의 소설 『공마당』에 나타난 여성 인물의 폭력 양상을 고찰하였다. 여순10·19 라는 역사적 사건에 노출된 인물들의 삶이 소설 속에서 어떻게 형상화되 는지 살펴보고, 나아가 여성에게 가해진 국가폭력과 가부장적 폭력, 집단 에 의한 폭력, 언어폭력 등 중층적 폭력 양상을 분석하였다. 
최근 여순10·19사건에 관한 연구는 주제의 다양성으로 다각도로 이루 어지고 있으나 ‘여성의 삶과 역할’을 다룬 연구는 부재하다는 지적이 대두 되었다. 여성은 남성과 마찬가지로 역사적 사건에 휩쓸린 국가폭력의 희생자이면서 가부장적 폭력, 집단에 의한 폭력 등 중층적 폭력에 노출된 존 재이다. 남성 부재의 상황에서 가장의 역할을 떠맡아 고단한 삶을 영위해 온 여성은 주변화되고 타자화된 존재가 아닌 여성에 대한 역사를 제대로 조명해야 할 존재로서 조명해야 할 필요성이 요구된다. 
『공마당』에는 폭압적인 여순10·19사건으로 인해 고통에 함몰당하는 여 성들이 등장한다. 이때 상처를 가한 이들을 포용하고 치유하는 것은 상 처 입은 여성들이다. 본고에서 다룬 폭력의 다양한 양상은 여성의 생명력 과 극복의지를 강조하기 위한 장치로 제시되며 그러한 상황을 통해 여순 10·19사건의 의미를 환기하는 데 그 의의가 있다.

Abstract

A Study on the Patterns of Violence to Female Characteristers in Gongmadang

This paper examines the patterns of violence against women depicted in the novel “Gongmadang,” based on the oral testimonies of the 10·19 Yeosu-Sunchon Incident. It explores how the lives of women exposed to the historical event of Yeosu- Sunchon are portrayed in the novel, and analyzes the multi- layered forms of violence against women, including violence by states, patriarchal violence, violence by community group, and verbal violence.
Recent studies on the YeoSun10·19 Incident have been carried out from various perspectives, but it has been pointed out that there is a lack of research on “women’s lives and roles.” Women are not only victims of state violence swept up in historical events like men, but they are also exposed to patriarchal violence, collective violence, and other forms of multi-layered violence. As women have taken on the role of the head of households in the absence of men and led difficult lives, they need to be recognized as a necessary presence to illuminate the history of women, rather than being marginalized and treated as others.
In Gongmadang, women who suffer from pain due to the oppressive YeoSun10·19 Incident appear. The wounded women themselves embrace and heal others who are also injured. The various forms of violence discussed in this paper are presented as a device to emphasize women’s vitality and will to overcome, and it is significant in reviving the meaning of the YeoSun10·19 Incident through such circumstances.
