(일반논문) 증언의 윤리와 공감의 미학 / 최현주

한국의 근대사는 폭력을 기원으로 하여 시작되었다. 1894년 동학혁명 이나 1945년 8·15해방을 근대사의 기점으로 삼기도 하지만 이같은 근대 화의 단초에는 모두 벌거벗은 생명을 대상으로 한 비극적인 국가폭력이 핵심적인 기제로 작동되었다. 한국 근·현대사는 벌거벗은 생명들의 피로 물들여진 폭력과 죽임의 역사였다. 10·19 사건 또한 비극적인 국가폭력이 반복되었다. 여순10 ·19의 문학들 또한 이러한 역사의 비극성을 재현하고 있다. 죽음과 죽임의 학살을 증언하고, 그로부터 파생한 가족의 해체, 그 리고 아버지에 대한 그리움과 만남에의 지극한 염원을 노래하는 시들이 창작되었다. 70여 년 강요된 침묵으로 인해 희생자와 유족들은 말하지 못 하였고, 그 비극들을 지켜본 자연들을 매개로 많은 시들은 역설적으로 역 사의 비극을 증언하고 있다. 한편 여순10·19를 소설화한 작품들은 레비의 역설에도 불구하고 죽은 자들에 대한 기억과 그 참상을 사실적으로 재현 해내고 있다. 여순10·19 사건은 지나간 과거의 사건이 아니라 우리의 미 래 세대의 평화롭고 행복한 삶을 보장하기 위해 우리가 지금 반드시 해결 해야 하는 과제이다. 많은 시인과 소설가들은 우리의 이러한 책무에 응답 하는 창작들을 계속해가고 있다.

Abstract

Ethics of Testimony and Aesthetics of Empathy

Korea’s modern history began with violence. The Donghak Revolution in 1894 or the August 15 Liberation in 1945 are sometimes considered as the starting point of modern history, but at the beginning of such modernization, tragic state violence targeting naked lives operated as a key mechanism. Korean modern and contemporary history is a history of violence and killing, stained with the blood of naked lives. The October 19 incident was also a repeat of tragic state violence. The literature of the 10th and 19th dynasties also reproduces the tragedy of this history. Poems were created that testify to the death and massacre, the disintegration of the family that resulted from it, and the longing for the father and the extreme desire to meet him. Due to 70 years of enforced silence, the victims and their bereaved families were unable to speak, and many poems paradoxically bear witness to the tragedies of history through nature, which witnessed the tragedies. Meanwhile, works that fictionalize the events of Yeosu-Sun 10 and 19 realistically reproduce the memories of the dead and their horrors, despite Levy’s paradox. The Yeosun 10/19 incident is not an incident of the past, but a task that we must solve now to ensure a peaceful and happy life for our future generations. Many poets and novelists continue to create works that respond to our responsibility.
